Hi friends! Did you know that Mother’s Day is right around the corner? One of the things that I love about blogging is for the first time in my life I feel like I’m ahead of the curve on holidays. This month our Michaels Makers Challenge was to create a gift with our Mothers in mind. When I started thinking about what I could make my mother I instantly thought of magnolias.

Magnolias have always been my mother’s favorite flower – long before Fixer Upper and the Magnolia Shop although I do have to say she’s ecstatic about the new found popularity as there are so many magnolia products on the market now! But have you checked out some of the prices on those gorgeous wreaths? I know she was looking at them but they were just too pricey so I knew this was the perfect gift to create for her this Mother’s Day. I headed down to my local Michaels and picked up everything I needed to get started.

What you’ll need:

  • Grapevine wreath
  • Magnolia stems
  • Green moss
  • Floral wire cutters
  • Hot glue gun/hot glue

And the steps:

  • I started out by adding some green moss to the grapevine wreath that will help fill the wreath out and add depth to the final product. I simply hot glued small areas and applied the moss. You don’t have to add too much glue, the rough surface of the wreath will help keep the moss in place and the flowers added on top will also help to secure.
  • Once the wreath is covered with moss (I used the entire bag), I cut the magnolia stems about 2 1/2 inches from the base of the flower.

  • Once all of the stems are cut, insert the stem through the grapevine wreath and bend the stem on the other end to secure. Repeat for all flowers, we used 6 total.
  • Once all of your flowers are added, clip leaves off of the cut magnolia stems and glue them to the wreath underneath the magnolias to fill in the space between flowers.

And that’s it! In just an afternoon, you have a simple DIY decor project that is perfect for your spring house or to gift to that magnolia lover in your life!
