DIY Photo Backdrop - perfect for taking pictures for Etsy, blogs and more!
Hi friends! Today we’re covering something just a little different. We’re going “behind the scenes” and sharing an easy and functional DIY Photo Backdrop! If you have a business, an Etsy or even a blog like we do, you might find yourself taking photos of products, food or projects. Just a little bit of elbow grease can help you increase the appeal of your photos in no time.

I have always been a fan of photos on a wooden tabletop and even background. And today, we’re going to show you how you can build your own faux wooden tabletop or backdrop in just a few hours!

What you’ll need:

First we started off the project by cutting our 1×4 boards into 2ft sections, then glued each of those sections onto the 2×2 plywood base, leaving a little space between – a natural tabletop pattern.

Once the glue was tacky and the boards did not move around, we screwed down the 1x4s with 1 ¼ inch wood screws.

The great thing about this faux tabletop project is you can actually craft two tables in one! Once the boards on one side were secured, we simply flipped our plywood over and repeated the same steps to create a second wood tabletop on the opposite side. Once both sides were complete – it was time to stain! In order to create two completely different looks for variety in photos, we chose a light Classic Oak stain and a dark Tudor stain.

We stained one side at a time, ensuring the stain was dry before moving on to the opposite side. And the result is a beautiful faux tabletop board that can be used as a lovely table or photo backdrop for a number of products and projects!

  1. In one of my recent food posts, I just used scrapbooking paper to give the appearance of wood in the background.

Overly discerning eyes might be able to tell, but it still looks great and didn’t require a whole lot of building. Which is good, because I would be likely to hammer my thumbs together or something.

    1. Hi Stephanie – scrap paper works! I have long used poster board and paper, but was tired of having to replace them for almost every project. Now I can just wipe down the wood and it’s ready to go for the next project!

  2. Such a great idea! I was using white/black poster boards. I have wood in the garage just collecting dust! This will be my project this weekend 🙂
