Hi lovelies! It’s Amanda from Let’s Fête, and I’m so happy to be back sharing a really fun decor DIY. I just love a DIY that brings some festive decor, but can also serve as an amazing hostess gift. So keep it in mind for a gift for the Thanksgiving host in your life. They will be blown away!

The success of this wreath really lies in the colors you choose, and some good repetition in placement of the flowers.

What you’ll need:

  • 1 12 inch foam circle
  • 1.5 – 2 inch natural fiber/burlap ribbon, 5 yards
  • hot glue (and gun!)
  • fake ‘fall flowers’ – long ones as shown, this is what they called them at Michaels! (I used 6 white, 8 yellow, 8 white, 6 red and 4 of the blue – which serve as a nice accent). Cut from the stems, leaving approx 1-2 inches of stem to secure to the wreath

How to create:

First, wrap your foam circle in the ribbon. Use a bit of hot glue to secure the end and then wrap, covering the entire thing. Secure the end with some hot glue as well. You’ll notice in the pictures that I did not have enough ribbon. This happens, and I covered in another color. I only had 3 yards of the light ribbon, and that’s why I say go for 5! It was a bit of a pain. In the end I’m totally fine with it.

Now, start with one of the colors you have more of, just because you kind of build up and what you start with will be a bit more hidden at the end. Secure the end with a bit of hot glue, and then secure in one more spot a couple inches back from the top.

Tip: have all the flowers going in the same direction. It will look more put together this way, and flow all in one direction.

Work around the first layer, one at a time, slightly overlapping, and leaving an inch or two of overhang. You’ll use 4 of the 8 white ones if you buy like I did. Once that’s complete, move onto another color. Place next to the first layer, but not completely parallel. You want it to stick out at a slightly different angle or height. This gives your wreath a little texture.

Use your third and fourth layers to fill in some gaps. Shoving the end under some of the existing pieces and gluing the tops right down on top of another piece. That layering really covers the foam circle underneath, but also gives a lot of depth. Once you’ve gone around and around the wreath with all your standard flowers (can I call them that, I don’t want them to feel they’re any less than the blue ones!), use the smaller blue flowers as accent pieces. I tucked the ends under some of the other pieces already glued down, and then secured the smaller flowers at different points just following how they laid naturally. I like the organic feel to the pieces sticking out. you could definitely groom it more if you just glued down more pieces and really told them where they should be. You’re the boss!

Once the glue cools off, you’re ready to hang (or pack up for a gift!). I tried on our door as well as mantel. And while I like it both places, it’s currently hanging out on the mantel and will most likely end up a gift for a friend later this season.
