Embroidery Hoop Christmas Ornaments
Happy November, friends! I don’t know about you, but I am in full holiday mode! I am brainstorming our holiday menus, planning our cookie baking and getting ready to haul out the decorations! Oh, and if we haven’t met yet – I am Keri from Shaken Together! As a busy mom, wife and blogger, I love to share easy recipes and simple crafts and today is no exception!
When I stumbled across a bag of vintage bottle brush trees in my holiday stash, I realized they were the perfect size to tuck inside a mini embroidery hoop and these easy DIY Christmas ornaments were born!
Supplies
- Mini embroidery hoop (these are 4.25 inches in diameter)
- Mini bottle brush tree (mine are about 3.5 inches tall)
- Red/white bakers twine
- Dark crème wax
- Ribbon
- Mini alphabet letter stickers
- Hot glue gun + glue sticks
First, let’s use the dark crème wax to give the embroidery hoop a quick “stain”. I used Deep Brown wax from DecoArt, but there are different brands that should work as well. You can absolutely use regular stain, but I love using the crème wax because it dries so much quicker and clean up is easy.
Use a clean cloth to rub some of the wax on the embroidery hoop. Once you have covered the surface (don’t forget the inside of the hoop), use a different part of the cloth to wipe off any excess wax and buff the surface of the wood. This gives the wood some age and character in just a minute or so!
The wax doesn’t need too much drying time so you can move right to the next steps. Use the hot glue gun to attach a length of twine around the bottle brush tree.
Sandwich a ribbon between the outer and inner hoops by unscrewing the fastener, sliding the ribbon in and tightening the fastener again. Then, just hot glue the bottle brush tree in the center of the hoop.
If you want to add your family’s last name, a festive word or the date to your ornament, affix mini letter stickers along the bottom of the hoop. {P.S. I love repurposing my red yarn wrapped tree from Valentines’ Day to use in my Christmas décor!}
These embroidery hoop Christmas ornaments would be an easy project for a ladies crafternoon! Make a quick craft store run, grab the ladies and some munchies and get your craft on! Change up the ribbon, use the natural/cream colored bottle brush trees, bling them up with a little glitter … add your own touch to make these ornaments match your Christmas décor! Since red is my favorite color, I think this version will work just fine!
