Hi friends! Before the holidays come and go this year, I wanted to share a quick project that contributed to our Christmas decor this year, How to Age Galvanized Steel! Do you love the look of aged steel but not necessarily the vintage pricetag that comes along with it?! Same here! So this season, I decided to pick up some brand new galvanized steel and try my hand at giving it that farmhouse aged look. I headed down to my local True Value store and picked up everything I needed for this project!

Supplies:

Directions:

  1. Wipe down your galvanized steel pail to remove any dust, dirt or debris.
  2. Put on your rubber gloves and apply your acidic toilet bowl cleaner to the pail.
  3. Rub into the pail with the steel wool and let set for 30-45 minutes.
  4. Rinse your steel pail off and let dry.

And voila, once dry you’ve taken your sparkly new galvanized steel pail into one that has been “aged” in just an afternoon! For our holiday decor we picked up a cute mini Christmas tree and popped it right into our new aged steel pail!

So cute, right? Now it sits perfectly welcoming and festive on our doorstop.

And now that I’ve learned the secret to aging steel, I’m on the lookout for more bright shiny galvanized steel to age! What do you think? It is really a fun and easy project – I hope you’ll give it a try!
