Hello again A Night Owl readers – Keri from Shaken Together here!  With warmer weather finally upon us, flowers in bloom and green things beginning to blossom and grow, I thought that now was the time to think Spring!  And what better way to do that then make easy, thoughtful seasonal gifts for the special people in our lives! From teachers to neighbors, volunteers to the car pool crew, these Thank You Herb Gifts are perfect!

While wandering through a big box store recently, I spied flats and flats of pretty herbs out in the garden center. Just in time for Spring!  Pots of curly thyme, long tendrils of chocolate (!) mint, shimmery sage and gorgeous smelling lavender all came home with me.  Then I set about giving plain potted herbs a pretty {and easy!} makeover for gift giving!

Supplies:

  • Brown lunch bags (I found some generously sized lunch bags at Target.)
  • Plastic sandwich bags (Optional – my herbs were in biodegradable pots and were a little damp.)
  • Manilla shipping tags (I picked these up at the office supply store)
  • Alphabet stamps, a vine/leaf stamp, black and green ink pads
  • Fabric cut into 1 inch wide strips – make sure to cut them long enough to fit around your pots

How to make Thank You Herb Gifts - perfect for teachers, neighbors, volunteers and any other special people in your life!
The How-To

  1. First, cut the zip top off of a plastic sandwich bag – this makes the bags a bit wider. Slide each potted herb into the plastic bag to keep any water from seeping out the drainage holes and ruining your wrapping. Repeat for each pot of herbs.
  2. Open a lunch bag and start folding down the top in one inch folds until it is just tall enough to cover the top of the pots.  Repeat for each pot of herbs.
  3. Stamp your manila shipping tags with thank you / appreciation messages depending on the herbs you purchased.  Thank you for your thyme, Thanks for helping me bloom, Thank you for your sage advice and Thank you for your Commit-Mint were some of the phrases I came up with.  Get creative!
  4. Using the green ink pad and vine/leaf stamp, add a few accents around each tag.
  5.  Finally, thread a strip of fabric through each of the stamped tags and tie them around the folded top of the brown bag.

Now these sweet Thank You Herb Gifts are ready for giving!

    1. Hi Katy – I purchased mine at my local craft store (Joanns, Michaels or Hobby Lobby) but I have also seen then at Target recently. They are a great investment – I use mine alphabet stamps all the time! Thanks so much for the sweet comment!

  1. Thank you for the great idea. I put together 13 of these over the last few days as gifts for my volunteers this past school year. They were so much fun, turned out beautifully, and because I found plants on sale (including gorgeous orchids) was able to put together very nice gifts for a very small amount of money.

  2. I love this gift idea. I’m helping my 1 year old niece make these for her mom & dad as a cute thank you for all you do, and will do for me.
