Hi everyone! I’m Stacey and I blog over at Glued To My Crafts. I’m so excited to be starting the new year as a contributor on A Night Owl. In fact, I’m REALLY honored that Kimberly asked me in the first place. I’ll be bringing kid friendly craft tutorials that are easy to pull together on the fly and on a budget. I know as a mother myself – it has to be easy and affordable.  I promise to bring tons of fresh ideas that are sure to inspire the creativity in your home. Not to mention – the huge smile on your child’s face and all the crafts you will have displayed proudly on your wall. Many of which will make great keepsakes for years to come! Today we’re tarting with this Swan Handprint Craft!

Although it can be made or displayed all year long – this swan handprint craft is perfect for Valentine’s Day decorations. With a few simple supplies and 30 minutes {tops} you will have this cute painting too.

And the steps:

  1. Since our canvas was white and I wanted the swans to be white – I had to paint the canvas so the handprints would stand out. I went ahead and painted a turquoise background with some blue water towards the bottom. This would be where the swans would “float.”
  2. Then one at a time, we painted my son’s hands and had him press it on the canvas. You will want the fingers to face outward, while the palm towards the center. {You may want to do some test runs on some plain paper}
  3. Next using a paint brush, I filled in some spots of the handprint that didn’t really show up. Then I painted the necks of the swans in a heart shape. Followed with details on the face {beak and eyes} and a pink heart above the two swans.
  4. To finish it all off – I added a dot pattern around the canvas. This was done by dipping the end of my paint brush in paint, then on the canvas. Set it aside, to let it dry completely.

For simple hanging, you can hot glue some ribbon to the back of the canvas. Don’t forget to add the date/name/age on the back, so you will remember when it was created. Then display your Swan Handprint Craft proudly!

Hope this craft inspired you! Stayed tuned for more kid friendly crafts!!
