{Thrifty Thursday} A Chalkboard Serving Tray

Hi friends! Welcome to another installation of Thrifty Thursday! Once again I’ll be sharing with you a thrifty find that I have upcycled into something fun, and today it’s a chalkboard serving tray. I picked up this cute little silver tray from my local Goodwill a couple of months ago. It had quite a bit of wear, but at just $2, I couldn’t pass it up! I had bigger things in mind for it…

So today I finally got around to fixing her up! I cleaned the tray, used frog tape to tape off the inset of the tray, then taped newspapers to the outside to protect the edges.

Then just a couple coats of chalkboard spray paint and voila! A perfectly cute little chalkboard tray that looks adorable in our kitchen!

Now since I just painted the tray this afternoon, I still need to give it 24 hours to dry before using chalk on it. However, I can see something like a menu or cute saying in its future…

What do you think?

  3. Oh I’m kicking myself now! I saw a similar tray at the thrift store and even had it in my basket for a little bit but then I put it back bc I couldn’t decide what I wanted to do with it. This is awesome! Thanks for sharing!

  4. So glad I stopped by to check out the Diamond Candle Giveaway – because I’m so inspired now! I have a day off work, and you better believe I’m on my way to the nearest Goodwill as we speak =)

  5. The day you posted this project the thrift stores must have been mobbed. I’ve purchased several of the silver trays but did other projects with them. Now I will be looking for one that’s kinda beat up even to use for this.
Yours looks great and so easy. Just a little masking off. Shucks I passed on one yesterday at our local thrift shop. It was a bit more money but think it would be worth it. The thrift stores in Grand Junction and close areas have all gone up like crazy on all their prices. Guess they found out about bloggers buying things to redo and sell.
I made my first chalk board using the paint on chalk board paint and an old cupboard door. Hubs put a shelf on bottom of board to hold eraser and chalk. Now to find a place to hang it. Happy March
