DIY Map Frames – Decorating with Pictures

Hi friends! I’m so excited to be sharing a fun picture DIY project with you today as part of the Decorating with Pictures series over at Capturing Joy with Kristen Duke Photography! My favorite place for capturing pictures and special moments is Instagram. And now that Instagram prints are so easy to print – I’m always looking for new and fun ways to feature them in our home! From hanging in a picture frame from with twine and clothespins, to posting up with simple washi tape, they’re easy ways to interchange sweet pictures and fun experiences you want to feature in your home.
Some of my favorite Instagrams are those that I’ve captured during our family adventures. I was browsing Pinterest the other day and pinned a few projects to my Maps board when I realized – how fun would it be to incorporate a MAP when displaying pictures from our adventures?! And thus, this little craft idea was born: DIY Map Frames. These frames feature maps from our adventure locations along with Instagram prints from that trip – how fun is that? A great way to incorporate a little fun and nostalgia to your home decor.

What you’ll need:

• Wood plaques
• Maps
• Decoupage
• Paintbrush
• Clothespins or clips
• Glue gun/glue

And the steps:

1. Simply print out maps of locations that correspond with the pictures you want to display.
2. Cut out those maps to match the size and shape of your wooden plaques – they could be any size or shape!
3. Apply a light layer of decoupage to the wooden plaque and lay the map on top.
4. Cover with a light layer of decoupage and let dry.
5. Once dry, glue a clothespin or clip to the wooden plaque to hold your photo.

And voila! What you have are some cute DIY Map Frames! So very simple, but I think they really add a fun element to displaying your photos!
