Don’t forget to check out these 25+ Dr. Seuss Ideas and the cute Lorax Paper Plate Craft Stacey shared with us last week! That one should definitely be on your list. Ok, on to today’s Cat in the Hat craft…

What you’ll need:

  • Paper plate
  • White cardstock
  • Red paint
  • Foam paint brush
  • Glue

And the steps:

  1. Glue two pieces of 8×11.5 cardstock together, on the 8″ sides, end to end.
  2. Once the glue has dried, paint 1″ red strips along the length of the paper and let dry.
  3. Meanwhile, cut diagonals in your paper plate and fold up, this will be the “brim” of your hat.
  4. Glue the striped paper to paper plate pieces that are folded up – in the shape of a hat.

How CUTE is that? I personally loved the little party hats. And my boys did sing Happy Birthday while they had the party hats on – so at least my idea got across. But they’re still talking about the BIG Cat in the Hat. Clearly that was the more popular of the two in their eyes. Haha! I don’t think you could go wrong, any which way you go! One side note – my boys have um, larger heads…so next time I will use a “dinner” paper plate rather than the smaller. The hats sat just fine on top of their heads, but I think a dinner plate hat would have fit them better. So just a little tip… 😉

  1. That hat is super adorable and your son is so bloody cute! This definitely sounds easy! I might have to try it for my Niece!

  2. Looks great! I like the way you cut the plate. I haven’t seen that before but it makes total sense. The painted stripes look like the irregular stripes in the book too. Thanks for sharing on instagram #obSEUSSed2 and I noticed you in the SNAP show & tell.
